It's such a bummer that your products aren't certified kosher - I see them in my store all the time, especially those awesome looking donuts, but myself and my celiac friends can't eat them because we're observant (kosher) Jews! Any chance you'll consider getting kosher certification? Thanks!
We've considered it for years. We've done a lot of research on what is required and have determined that it is not practical, if even possible, for us to be certified kosher.
The main reason is our ingredient supply chain. When looking at ingredient suppliers, we are looking for supplier who can provide verifiable gluten free product. At the volumes of ingredient that we use, this limits our options substantially. To further limit our supply chain to only kosher ingredients would eliminate many of the ingredients we use and make a large number of our products unavailable. Even if we were able to find GF kosher replacements for our current ingredients in the required volumes, the issue of availability and substitution would become unmanageable. Where we can, we always try to find alternate suppliers of a specific ingredient that can be verified GF. In those cases, when a particular supplier is out of an ingredient, we can switch to the alternate supplier. Having two suppliers, which both carry the specialty ingredients we use, in the quantities we need, that are both GF and kosher...well, it quickly becomes obvious that we could run into serious production issues due to supply problems.
However, the clincher is simply this. Almost half of our ingredients are not kosher certified and many of these products are unique to their specific manufacturers. If these unique ingredients are not kosher, there's no way we can be either.
We do appreciate the feedback on this. If we thought there was any way we could go kosher, we would.
That's great news! I'll share it with my readers.
I'm very pleased to learn that you products are available at Giant Food stores. My wife brought home a loaf of brown sandwich bread yesterday from Giant and I almost fell over. I'm very fond of your products and look forward to consuming more of them in the future.
Twice Kinnikinnick suprised me this week! First found the new hot dog buns at our not so local health food store - and kids loved them...just days before Independance Day BBQ!
Then I find our local (less than 1 mile!) TARGET is one of 2 "test-market" stores stocking Kinnikinnick as well as toehr GF products. Banner week!
Although kids like getting the bimonthly shipments, too! Never out of stock of their favs! MANY thanks for expanding, Jay!
